Switch

Switch is an intelligent network device, mainly used to connect multiple network devices. On the basis of the MAC address contained in the data packet, it forwards the data packet to the correct destination port to realize communication between different network devices. Basic working principle

• Receive data packets: First receive data packets from connected devices.

• Analyze data packets: Analyze the MAC address and other information in the data packet to determine the destination address of the data packet.

• Forward data packets: Forward data packets to the correct destination port according to the MAC address.

Type

• Layer 2 switch: Works at the data link layer, only recognizes MAC addresses, and is mainly used to connect devices in LANs.

• Layer 3 switch: Works at the network layer, not only recognizes MAC addresses, but also recognizes IP addresses, and can connect network devices in different network segments.
