Nowadays, optical modules in the market usually have MPO and LC interfaces. For two optical modules with the same interface, MPO fiber jumper or LC fiber jumper can basically connect them; For the connection between optical modules with different interfaces, in addition to the use of MPO backbone fiber jumpers and LC duplex fiber jumpers, other fiber cabling products such as fiber adapter panels and MPO-LC duplex fiber distribution boxes are also required. ETU-LINK will introduce the connection solution of QSFP+optical module and SFP+optical module through this article.
▲ QSFP+optical module and SFP+optical module direct connection solution
When connecting an 8-core MPO interface QSFP+optical module with four duplex LC interface optical modules, we need to use an 8-core MPO-LC duplex branch fiber jumper. However, this direct connection scheme is limited to short distance connection on the same rack.
QSFP+optical module and SFP+optical module interconnection solution
① The following figure shows the interconnection mode of 40G QSFP+optical module and 10G SFP+optical module. The QSFP+optical modules and SFP+optical modules on both sides are connected with the MPO backbone optical fiber jumper and LC duplex optical fiber jumper respectively. Fiber adapter panel, MPO backbone fiber jumper and MPO-LC duplex fiber distribution box shall be used to connect MPO backbone fiber jumper and LC duplex fiber jumper. This connection method allows the replacement of equipment at both ends of the fiber link. The specific connection mode and required optical fiber equipment are shown in the following figure and table.
② Figure 3 shows another interconnection mode between QSFP+optical module and SFP+optical module. The difference between this connection scheme and the previous one is the optical access device at the end of the SFP+optical module. At last, the SFP+optical module is connected through the optical adapter panel and LC duplex branch fiber jumper. However, since the SFP+optical module ports must be located on the same chassis, the disadvantage of this method is the lack of flexibility at the SFP+optical module end. That is, this connection scheme does not allow the replacement of optical access equipment at the SFP+optical module end.
