What is the difference between the single mode and multi -mode in the light module
1. Different wavelengths
Generally, multi -modular optical wavelengths are 850nm, while single -mode optical wavelengths are mainly 1310nm and 1550nm. Due to the severe scattering of the modulus module, it can only be used for short -range transmission (SR); and the single -mode light module is mostly used for long -distance transmission such as LR, ER, and ZR. Under normal circumstances, the transmission distance is below 2km, called multi -module; the transmission distance is above 2km, called a single module.
2. Different application scope
Multi -mode light modules are mostly used in networks with relatively low transmission rate and relatively short transmission distance, such as local area networks. This type of network usually has many nodes, multiple connections, more detours, large amounts of connectors and couplers, and units. The length of the optical fiber is used to use the number of light sources, and the use of multi -mode light modules can effectively reduce network costs; single -mode light modules are mostly used in lines with long transmission distance and relatively high transmission rates, such as long -distance dry line transmission, urban area network construction construction wait.
3. Different fiber type
The single mode in the light module actually only refers to the type of fiber. According to the transmission mode of the optical module in the optical fiber, it can be divided into single -mode fiber and multi -mode fiber.
Multi -mode optical fiber is referred to as MMF, and the fiber diameter is generally 50/125 μm or 62.5/125 μm.
Single -mode optical fiber is referred to as SMF, and the fiber diameter is 9/125 μm.
