The advantages and applications of the two optical modules are as follows: The SFP-10G-SR optical module has the characteristics of miniaturization and low power consumption. The TOSA laser used is a VCSEL laser, and the cost is low. The characteristic of short transmission distance is suitable for short-distance application scenarios, such as enterprises, small hospitals and data center computer rooms. SFP-10G-LR optical module has the characteristics of miniaturization, low power consumption and long transmission distance. It is suitable for medium and long-distance application scenarios, such as universities, industrial parks, as well as operator customers, large data centers, etc.

When using these two types of optical modules with optical fibers, special attention should be paid to the fact that single-mode optical fibers cannot be used in multi-mode optical modules, because the divergence angle of the optical signal emitted by multi-mode optical modules is large, and the aperture of single-mode optical fibers is small. Too little light enters the fiber to travel long distances. At the same time, it is not recommended to insert multi-mode optical fibers into single-mode optical modules, because although the light emitted by single-mode optical modules can all enter the optical fibers, they are transmitted in multi-mode modes in the optical fibers, and the dispersion is large and can only be transmitted over short distances. In this case, the optical power of the receiving end will increase, which will cause the optical power of the receiving end to be overloaded. Therefore, it is not recommended to use multi-mode fibers with single-mode optical modules.
