The OM3 jumper is a 10 gigabit multimode jumper. The multimode fiber uses LED as the light source, allowing multiple beams of light to propagate simultaneously in the fiber, thus forming mode dispersion. The mode dispersion technology limits the bandwidth and distance of multimode optical fiber. Therefore, the core of multimode optical fiber is thick, the transmission speed is low, the distance is short, and the overall transmission performance is poor, but its cost is relatively low. It is generally used in buildings or in the environment adjacent to geographical locations. Now let's introduce the OM3 jumper and the difference between OM3-150 and OM3-300.

OM3 optical fiber is a laser optimized optical fiber type, which can provide higher transmission bandwidth in the 850nm transmission window. In the gigabit network, OM3 can support a transmission distance of 550 meters. In the 10G Ethernet, OM3 can be transmitted to 300 meters, and in the 40G/100G Ethernet, OM3 can be transmitted to 100 meters.

The bandwidth of multimode optical fiber is 50 MHz~500 MHz/Km, and OM3 can be divided into two series, namely OM3-150 and OM3-300. OM3-150 refers to the longest transmission distance of this jumper type in 10 Gigabit Ethernet is 150 meters, and OM3-300 refers to the longest transmission distance of this jumper type in 10 Gigabit Ethernet is 300 meters. In addition to different transmission distances, the effective bandwidth of the OM3-300 is also different. The effective bandwidth of the OM3-300 is higher than that of the OM3-150.

The high bandwidth of OM3 10 gigabit multimode optical cable at 850nm is designed to adapt to VCSEL laser light source. VCSEL laser has lower cost than traditional laser, better performance than LED light source, and can be used in 10GB Ethernet transmission.

OM3 jumper is water blue, and its outer sheath can be divided into PVC sheath, LSZH sheath and OFNP sheath. The PVC sheath is very soft and anti-oxidation, which is suitable for horizontal and vertical applications in ventilated buildings; LSZH sheath is low halogen free, suitable for horizontal structure cabling area and data center machine room; OFNP sheath has the highest fire rating and is suitable for vertical operation between data center floors.
