AOC (Active Optical Cables) active optical cables refer to communication cables that need to use external energy to convert electrical signals and optical signals to each other in the communication process. Optical transceivers at both ends of the optical cable provide optical conversion and optical transmission functions. Now we will introduce the 40G AOC active optical cable.
The 40G QSFP+AOC active optical cable consists of two 40G optical transceiver modules and a multimode OM3 optical fiber. The modules at both ends are responsible for photoelectric conversion, while the optical fiber jumper in the middle is responsible for transmitting optical signals. The modules at both ends include optical emission part and optical receiving part, and the optical emission part includes: VCSEL laser, diode, drive and control circuit, etc; The optical receiving part includes: photodiode (PIN), transimpedance amplifier (TIA) and auxiliary circuit.
40G QSFP+AOC active optical cable can be divided into two types: 40G QSFP+to QSFP+AOC and 40G QSFP+to 4 * SFP+AOC. Both ends of the 40G QSFP+to QSFP+AOC active optical cable are 40G optical transceiver modules, while one end of the 40G QSFP+to 4 * SFP+AOC active optical cable is a 40G optical transceiver module, and the other end is four 10G optical transceiver modules.
The 40G QSFP+to QSFP+AOC active optical cable is used for the connection of two 40G switch ports, while the 40G QSFP+to 4 * SFP+AOC active optical cable is used for the connection of 40G QSFP+ports and 10G SFP+ports.
Because 40G QSFP+AOC active optical cable has the advantages of low power consumption and low cost, it is widely used in short distance transmission of data center, and can be used for the connection of access layer switch and aggregation layer switch in TOR cabling.
