The module is a relatively sensitive optical device. When the operating temperature of the optical module is too high, it will cause problems such as excessive transmitting optical power, error receiving signal, packet loss, and even directly burn the optical module in serious cases.

If the temperature of the optical module is too high, the indicator of the corresponding port will be set to red. At this time, we can see a string of numbers - 0x00000001, which indicates that the temperature of the optical module is too high.

The solution is to replace the optical module. After the optical module is replaced, wait for 5 minutes (the polling cycle of the optical module is 5 minutes, and the state of the optical module after 5 minutes is generally observed for fault recovery), Observe the status of the port alarm light and whether the alarm status is restored.

After the optical module is replaced with a new one, the port red light goes out, indicating that the optical module fault alarm returns to normal. According to the operating temperature, the optical modules can be divided into commercial (0 ℃ - 70 ℃), expansion (- 20 ℃ - 85 ℃) and industrial (- 40 ℃ - 85 ℃), of which commercial optical modules are most widely used.

But in fact, different application environments need to select optical modules with corresponding temperature levels, otherwise it is easy to cause abnormal temperature of optical modules, which will affect normal use.

The commercial optical module is applicable to the indoor enterprise computer room and data center computer room, while the industrial optical module is applicable to industrial Ethernet and 5G forward transmission. The former has low requirements for the reliability of the optical module, while the latter has a wide operating temperature range and high requirements for its safety and reliability.

In the white paper of the 5G bearer optical module, it is mentioned that the 5G front transmission AAU side optical module involves outdoor applications. The outdoor temperature is changeable and the working environment is relatively harsh, so industrial optical modules with better performance are required.
