Before explaining the difference between the electrical interface module and the ordinary optical module, let's first understand what the electrical interface module and the ordinary optical module are. In fact, the electrical port module is a module that converts optical ports into electrical ports. Its function is to convert optical signals into electrical signals. Its interface type is RJ45.

The optical to power module is a module that supports hot plug, and its package types include SFP, SFP+, GBIC, etc. The electrical interface module has the characteristics of low power consumption, high performance and compact design. According to the different speed of the electrical interface module, it can be divided into 100 megabit electrical interface module, gigabit electrical interface module, 10 gigabit electrical interface module and adaptive electrical interface module. Among them, the gigabit electrical interface module and 10 gigabit electrical interface module are most widely used.

Ordinary optical modules are optical devices that can transmit and receive analog signals. The function is to convert electrical signals into optical signals after passing through the transmitting end of the optical module, and then convert optical signals into electrical signals through the receiving end to achieve photoelectric conversion. Optical modules can be divided into SFP, SFP+, QSFP+and QSFP28 according to different packaging forms.

Next, I will list some differences between the electrical interface module and the ordinary optical module.

1. Different interfaces: the interface of the electrical interface module is RJ45, while the interface of the optical module is mainly LC, in addition, there are SC, MPO, etc.

2. Different collocation: the electrical interface module is usually used with Category 5, Category 6, Category 6 or Category 7 network cables, while the optical module is generally connected with the optical jumper.

3. Different parameters: the electrical interface module has no wavelength, while the optical module has (such as 850nm 1310nm 1550nm).

4. Different devices: the devices of the electrical interface module and the optical module are different, especially the electrical interface module does not have the core device of the optical module - laser.

5. Different transmission distance: the transmission distance of the electric port module is short, only 100m at the farthest. The transmission distance of the optical module can reach 100m to 160km according to the different types of optical fibers used together.
