This article will introduce what is 10G SFP+ CWDM optical module, and what are its advantages. The 10G SFP+ CWDM optical module is a coarse wavelength division multiplexing optical module, which is usually used together with single-mode optical fibers. The optical module uses the CWDM technology to save fiber resources, which significantly improves the flexibility, economy, and reliability of the network. In addition, the optical module consumes very little power.

The wavelength interval of CWDM optical module is generally 20nm. CWDM technology solves the two problems of fiber shortage and multi-service transparent transmission, and is mainly applied in the convergence or access layer of medium and short distance MAN. The CWDM optical module uses DFB lasers and does not need to use EDFA as optical amplifiers. The device is cheap, and the CWDM modulation laser uses uncooled lasers, which does not need refrigeration.

When the temperature of the laser changes from 0 to 70℃, the wavelength of the laser changes about 6nm. Considering the discrete type caused by the production process, there is a wavelength change of ±3nm, a total of about 9nm, which requires low wavelength stability.

The transmission distance of 10G SFP+ CWDM optical module is up to 100KM, and the common transmission distance is 10KM, 20KM, 40KM and 80KM. The optional wavelength of 10KM and 20KM optical module is 1270-1610nm, and the wavelength interval is 20nm. The optional wavelength of the 40KM and 80KM products is 1470-1610nm with a wavelength interval of 20nm.

The CWDM optical module is mainly used in MAN. When the CWDM system is connected to the high performance routing switch, it can form a broadband IP MAN. The CWDM transmission device can also be directly connected to the routing switch, and the routing switch can directly drive the optical transmission device. The routing switch can divide and insert each wavelength and data stream. In the simplest case, a single optical fiber (TX/RX) is initially used to directly transmit data (GE services). If the number of access services increases or the bandwidth requirements increase, CWDM can be used to gradually add wavelength channels to this optical fiber based on the needs of the services.

From a long-term perspective, laying optical fibers to increase core resources is the final solution. However, the construction cycle is long, the construction is difficult, and the investment cost is high. Moreover, in most cases, big customers want to open the business quickly, so CWDM is the best choice for MAN construction.
