The development of 100G Ethernet brings great market demand for 100G optical modules, among which 100G QSFP28 is the most popular 100G optical module due to its small size and low power consumption. 100G QSFP28 optical module includes SR4, eSE4, PSM4, LR4, CWDM4, ER4, ZR4, etc. This article will focus on the 100G QSFP28 LR4 optical module.
100G QSFP28 LR4 optical module adopts LAN WDM technology. At the transmitter end, 4 25G electrical signals are converted into 4 optical signals, and then they are multiplexed in a single channel for transmission. At the receiver end, the multiplexed 100G optical input signals are demultiplexed into 4 LAN WDM optical signals. They are then converted into four electrical output signals.
The 100G LR4 optical module works at 1295 nm, 1300 nm, 1304 nm, and 1309nm with duplex LC interfaces. It is very suitable for long-distance connections in data centers and enterprise networks, such as 100G direct connection and interconnection. The 100 Gbit/s direct connection scheme is simple. You only need to insert the two QSFP28 LR4 optical modules into the corresponding 100 Gbit/s switch ports, and then connect the two modules with an LC fiber jumper.
The QSFP28 LR4 optical module 100G interconnection scheme is also easy to connect. As shown in the following figure, high-density QSFP28 LR4 optical modules can be interconnected by using a rass-mounted optical fiber box, MTP optical adapter panel, and MTP backbone jumper. The adapter panel and fiber box are used to simplify cable management.
