When it comes to the package of optical modules, the most commonly used packages are SFP and SFP+. What are the packages of optical modules? According to the package type, optical modules are mainly divided into: 1*9, SFP, SFP+, X2, XENPAK, XFP, SFP28, and QSFP+, QSFP28, QSFP-DD. So what is the difference between them, let's find out together.
1. 1*9
The optical module with 1*9 package has 9 PIN corners, so it is also called 9-pin or 9PIN optical module, welding type optical module, mainly uses SC interface, and the general rate is 10M, 155M, 622M, 1.25G.
2. SFP
The package is SFP optical module and the interface is LC and SC. It is a small pluggable optical module, which can be divided into 155M, 622M, 1.25G and 2.5G according to the rate. The wavelengths are usually divided into 850nm, 1310nm, 1550nm, and 1490nm. The wavelength of 850nm is SFP multi-mode, and the transmission distance is usually below 2KM. The wavelengths of 1310nm, 1490nm, and 1550nm are single-mode, and the transmission distance is more than 2KM.
3. SFP+
SFP+ is an upgraded version of SFP, the speed is 6G, 8G, 10G, 16G, and the size is smaller than XFP, usually the transmission wavelength is 850nm, 1310nm or 1550nm, and the maximum transmission rate supports 10Gbit/s.
4. XENPAK
The optical module packaged by XENPAK is relatively large in size and power consumption. It is a standardized package for 10G Ethernet optical converters, and it is also an early 10G optical module.
5. X2
The optical module encapsulated in X2 can support hot swap, which is developed from XENPAK and is smaller than it. It is an optical module with a transmission rate of 10Gbit/s. It is mainly used in routers and network connection ports and switches with Ethernet X2 ports. .
6. XFP
The 10G optical module in XFP package is a hot-swappable, communication protocol-independent optical transceiver that operates at 850nm, 1310nm or 1550nm and achieves high density by using LC connectors.
7. SFP28
The package SFP28 has the same size as SFP+, and is an enhanced version of the package SFP+, which can support a single-channel 25Gb/s rate. Widely used in 25G Ethernet and 100G (4x25Gbps) Ethernet.
