Fiber communication technology and computer technology are the two pillars of informatization, in which computer is responsible for digitizing information, while optical fiber is responsible for transmitting information. Optical fiber communication uses light wave as carrier wave to transmit information from A to B. According to ITU-T standard, communication optical fibers are divided into seven categories: G.651, G.652, G.653, G.654, G.655, G.656, and G.657. Among them, G.651 is multimode optical fiber, and G.651-G 657 is a single-mode optical fiber. ISO/IEC also divides multimode fiber into OM1-OM5, which are mainly used in local area network (LAN) and data center (DCN). At present, the common types of optical fiber jumpers on the market are single-mode OS2 jumpers and multi-mode OM2/OM3/OM4 optical fiber jumpers. Now let's talk about the types and corresponding colors of optical fiber jumpers.

1、 Classification of optical fiber jumpers

1. Single mode OS2 jumper

The standard of single-mode optical fiber is ITU-T (G.652-G.657), in which G 652 is the most common optical fiber type at present, mainly used in long-distance, backbone and MAN. The transmission wavelength of single-mode optical fiber (L) is generally 1310nm, and the transmission wavelength of single-mode long haul (LH) is generally 1310nm, 1490nm, 1550nm.

2. Multimode OM1/OM2 jumper

The OM1/OM2 jumper is the first two multimode jumpers. The transmitted light source comes from the LED diode, and the working wave band is 850nm. It is mainly used for short distance transmission, and the transmission rate is below 10G. The core diameter of OM1 is 62.5um, the maximum transmission distance is 300m, and the core diameter of OM2 is 50um, the maximum transmission distance is 500m.

3. Multimode OM3/OM4 jumper

The OM3/OM4 is an upgraded and optimized multimode fiber with a core diameter of 50um. The transmitted light source comes from a VCSEL laser with a working band of 850nm. It can support a transmission rate of 10G/40G/100G for short distance transmission.

4. Multimode OM5 jumper

OM5 is the latest multimode optical fiber, which can support the ultra bandwidth transmission of 850nm-953nm wavelengths. It can transmit at least four wavelengths, and the transmission distance is longer than OM3 and OM4 jumpers.
