SFP28 25G 10LR

At present, I have encountered several SFP problems in the project, which are actually or may be related to the type of Optical module, so I specifically found some multimode and single-mode data. The following are some concepts and differences learned about multimode and single-mode SFPs. According to wavelength, there are 850nm/1310nm/1550nm, and a wavelength of 850nm is SFP multimode with a transmission distance of less than 2KM; The wavelength of 1310/1550nm is SFP single mode, with a transmission distance of over 2KM. Relatively speaking, these three wavelengths are cheaper than the other three.

If bare modules are not labeled, it is easy to confuse them. Generally, manufacturers will distinguish the colors of the pull rings. For example, black pull rings are multimode with a wavelength of 850nm, while blue and yellow pull rings are single mode with wavelengths of 1310nm and 1550nm, respectively.

Multimode: almost all Almost all fibers are 50/125 in size μ M or 62.5/125 μ m. And the bandwidth (information transmission capacity of optical fiber) is usually 200MHz to 2GHz. The multimode optical transceiver can transmit up to 5 kilometers through multimode optical fibers. Using light-emitting diodes or lasers as light sources. The pull ring or body color is black.

Single mode: The size of a single mode fiber is 9/125 μ m. And compared to multimode fibers, it has the characteristics of infinite bandwidth and lower losses. Single mode optical transceiver is often used for long-distance transmission, sometimes reaching up to 150 to 200 kilometers. Use LD or LED with narrow spectral lines as the light source. The pull ring or body color is blue or yellow.

Differences and connections: Single mode fiber is cheap, but single mode equipment is much more expensive than similar multimode equipment. Single mode devices can typically operate on both single mode and multimode fibers, while multimode devices are limited to operating on multimode fibers.

With the closeness of single-mode and multi-mode SFP Optical module this year, the use of single-mode optical cables and single-mode modules has become mainstream. Single mode is significantly superior to multimode types in terms of usage.
