SFP transceivers come in various types of sending and receiving, and users can choose the appropriate transceiver for each link to provide the "optical performance" that can be achieved based on available fiber types, such as multimode or single-mode fiber. SFP Optical module can generally be divided into the following categories:
SX: 850nm wavelength, transmission distance of 550 meters, using multimode fiber MMF
LX: 1310 nanometer wavelength, transmission distance of 10 kilometers, using single-mode fiber SMF
EX: 1310 nanometer wavelength, transmission distance of 40 kilometers, using single-mode fiber SMF
ZX: 1550nm wavelength, transmission distance of 80km, using single-mode fiber SMF
TX: refers to the electrical port module, which uses RJ-45 copper cable interface
CWDM: sparse Wavelength-division multiplexing SFP Optical module
DWDM: dense Wavelength-division multiplexing SFP Optical module
Commercial SFP transceivers can provide speeds up to 4.25 Gbps. Several packaging forms of 10 Gbps transceivers are XFP, as well as a new variant "SFP+" that is basically the same as SFP packaging.
