The optical module is an important component of the optical fiber communication system. It is used to transmit and receive optical signals. The optical module in a data center has been used at a rate of 1G before 2010 to 10G and 40G now.
Since most of the devices in medium and large data centers are within 500 meters, multi-mode optical fibers (OM3 and OM4) are generally used for interconnection between devices. The light source of the multi-mode optical module uses VCSEL laser as the emission light source and PIN as the optical receiver.
Currently, 10G SFP+ optical modules are used to connect servers at the access layer to access switches, and 40G QSFP+ optical modules are used to connect servers at the access layer to switches at the aggregation or core layer.
